Fisher & Paykel is forging new design
frontiers in kitchen appliances. This
modular collection recognises the
changing dynamics of the modern family
and the increasing need to personalise
spaces to best suit the way we live.
All the appliances in the collection –
the CookSurface, CoolDrawer and
VentSurface – have been designed to
work hard, act intuitively and multi task.
They have also been designed to meet
the increasing openness of modern
kitchens and family living areas. The
modular design and standard sizing
means appliances can be positioned to
best suit the user. |
The CookSurface combines the benefits
of gas cooking with the convenience of a
ceramic cooktop. Three sets of concealed
burner heads and pan supports rise out
of the glass cooktop when the control
knob is activated, and retract when
cooking is finished. With the burners and
knobs recessed, the cooktop presents a
smooth, clutter-free surface that is easy
to clean. Another key point of difference
from conventional gas cooktops is the
sparkless, hot-surface ignition.
This technology provides a glow plug that
heats up to ignite the gas instantaneously
as it is released. Precise control is
achieved by variable speed fans that
regulate the air flow, controlling the
delicate balance between oxygen and gas
levels.
Safety concerns have also been
addressed. If the flame goes out, the gas
burners will automatically reignite, or shut
down if a series of attempts to relight is
unsuccessful. |
Following hard on the heels of the highly
successful Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer
comes the CoolDrawer. As the name
suggests, this is a refrigerator – or freezer
– in a convenient, ergonomic drawer
design that allows flexibility of location.
To optimise work areas and entertaining
spaces, CoolDrawers can be positioned
exactly where you need them. For
example, a CoolDrawer can be placed
outside of the main work area to provide
easy access to drinks. This appliance also
has the flexibility to be programmed to a
preferred temperature.
You can programme a CoolDrawer to
provide a freezer in the scullery or to
provide a refrigerator to chill fruit and
vegetables beside the food preparation
area. Highly engineered finishing
ensures a 4mm clearance between front
panels, as demanded by professional
cabinetmakers. |
Fisher & Paykel’s Active Smart™
technology provides an intuitive
refrigerator that works with you by
sensing how you use the fridge and
adjusting the settings accordingly to
maintain optimum temperatures. Active
Smart also comes with a humidity control
system that lets you create the perfect
micro-climate in each storage bin, so fruit
and vegetables keep fresher for longer.
Other key features include a built-in ice
maker, chilled filtered water on tap on
selected models, large-capacity bottle
shelves and a bottle chill feature that chills
bottles quickly. Secure glass shelving
prevents drips and spills falling on the
food below. Alarms on the refrigerator
and freezer sound an alert if the door has
been left open.

MasterChef is a television programme
that has captured the attention of the
nation. The drama of the twelve finalists
battling a panel of discerning judges,
fellow competitors hungry for the title,
and the growing pressure of each
challenge and subsequent elimination has
had viewers on the edge of their seats.
Fisher & Paykel cooktops, ovens and
refrigerators feature in the MasterChef
kitchen. Over the course of the 12-week
production, they were worked hard as
competitors baked, fried, grilled, smoked
and steamed their way to MasterChef
fame. Featured products were the
Fisher & Paykel French Door Ice & Water
stainless steel refrigerator, 76cm pyrolytic
self-clean Iridium stainless steel single
oven, and 90cm five-burner cooktop in
brushed stainless steel.

Wellington MasterClass, the ultimate
festival for foodies. Part of the Wellington
on a Plate event, the Masterclass
is a full day of good and fascinating
demonstrations by top chefs and food
