Microwave Combi Recipe: Potato and Onion Gratin

Potato dishes such as this gratin take a long time to cook to a tender result, but if you have a microwave combination oven, by adding just a small amount of microwave you can almost halve the cooking time while still achieving a result as good as one cooked in a regular oven.
If you do not have a Microwave combination oven, cook this gratin at 200C for 45- 50 minutes .

 

METHOD

  1. In shallow microwave and oven proof dish drizzle the olive oil and spread to coat the base and sides.
  2. Stack potatoes into dish and intersperce regularly with slices of onion.
  3. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly over potatoes
  5. Pour cream and milk making sure you distribute evenly.
  6. Top with parmesan
  7. Bake in oven with the following settings
  8. Hot Air+ MW 200C 300- 400W 15 minutes
  9. Then change setting to FanGrill  Fan Bake+ MW 250C 180- 200W and cook for a further 10 minutes
  10. If fork easily pieces potato it is ready, if it is still firm then finish with Hot Air+ MW 200C 300-360W 5 minutes.

1 c cream
1/2 c milk
2/3 cup grated tasty cheese
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
