
Cooking churros using your oven's Airfry function brings the beloved treat to new heights, offering a healthier alternative to deep frying. The air fryer's circulating hot air ensures a crispy exterior and a soft interior, capturing the essence of traditional churros without the excess oil. This guilt-free indulgence, dusted with cinnamon sugar or dipped in chocolate, delivers the perfect balance of flavor and convenience for a delightful sweet treat.
You will need a piping bag and a large star nozzle
METHOD
- Heat water, vanilla, salt, sugar and butter in small pot and bring to a steady boil
- Once its boiling tip in sifted flour and mix vigorously with a wooden spoon till it comes together, leaving sides of pot, leave for a one minute and then beat in egg until thoroughly mixed and a smooth shiny batter is obtained.
- Place star nozzle in piping bag, pile in the churros mixture making sure you have no air bubbles
- Prepare a baking tray with baking paper or foil and spray with baking spray.
- Pipe churros onto paper or foil to desired length
- Place in the fridge for up to one hour – no longer
- Select air fry function (Smeg 210C, Bosch 200C).
- Place a piece of foil on an oven rack below to catch dips
- Spray air fry basket with baking spray
- Gently lift churros onto basket and spray generously
- Bake on level 3 for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown, turning halfway
- Remove from oven and toss in cinnamon sugar if using or pile onto plate and serve with chocolate or caramel sauce. Best eaten hot from the oven

1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp butter
1 c plain flour sifted

1tsp cinnamon mixed with 2 tbsp castor sugar to dust – optional
